Rachel Lake is a very popular hiking destination as I had read and could tell by the packed parking lot when I arrived at the trailhead. This hike is more challenging then I gave it credit for, before reaching Rachel lake you will gain 1200' in less than a mile. Luckily the view at the lake is well worth the effort. After a late start and some difficulty following the trail after the sun had begun to set, Maggie and I made it to the lake! I put out some food and water for Maggie and set up our tent before making dinner for myself. There is something so magical about the peace and quiet you find while backpacking, with Maggie by my side I couldn't ask for anything more.
